When I started writing this text, I was still trying to wrap my head around what I saw in Mexico City.
Simply walking out of the Airbnb, where I stayed in Condesa – right by the street in Amsterdam – made me feel completely out of place.
Let me explain.
I was born in Mexico City, but raised in a city nearby (that was mostly known as a weekend holiday spot for chilangos). After spending part of my twenties studying and working in Mexico City, Condesa and Roma were the spots that I often visited, and even plotted a fashion magazine with friends.
Now, whenever I go back to Mexico City, it's mostly to visit family, do something quick for work, or run errands. However, what changed this time around is that I stayed inside “the bubble” – as Chloe, amemori’s jewelry designer, called it (more on that below) – and I got to experience all the changes these areas had truly gone through.
