Diet Prada shared it as: “Literally NYFW’s most powerful moment was this screen tee.”

They were referring to Patricio Campillo, the Mexican designer behind the rebranded eponymous label Campillo—semifinalist of the LVMH Prize in 2024—who, at the end of his second show in New York City, came out wearing a t-shirt that read: El Golfo de México (The Gulf of Mexico)—recently renamed the "Gulf of America" by President Donald Trump.

This isn’t the first time Donald Trump has sparked outrage among Mexicans, who have often turned to fashion as a means of protest. In 2016, when Trump was threatening to build “the wall,” a photo of artist Carlos E. Lang went viral—he was wearing a bomber jacket with the phrase Mexico is the Shit, standing in front of Trump Tower.

While Campillo’s statement isn’t necessarily comparable to that movement, certain parallels can be drawn. In several TikTok videos discussing the t-shirt, hundreds of users commented: “Where can I buy it?”…
