Meet the woman who is taking luxury Latin fashion to Oaxaca
Sofía Jiménez Marrufo, the creator behind the concept store Marchanta.
A few weeks ago, someone asked me in the Substack chat for suggestions on fashion and shopping brands in Oaxaca, Mexico.
While looking for some of my favorite places and brands in that state, I realized that the concept store Marchanta was selling garments from Mozhdeh Matin, the sustainable Peruvian brand. But not only that, I also saw ESCVDO and De Loreta among their selection - also some of my favorite Peruvian brands.
Honestly, the last time I was in Oaxaca was several years ago, pre-pandemic.
So, I was intrigued and wanted to learn more about who is behind it and why they have decided to focus on Latin fashion.
Sofía Jiménez Marrufo, born and raised in Oaxaca, is the creator of Marchanta. During our Zoom chat, she was able to explain to me how the idea for her store came about, which already has 30 brands from different countries, including Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and India; and also, how and why she has brought Latin luxury to Mexico.
