Why do all the headlines I write focus on Latin fashion or Latin America?
Because Latin fashion is so much more than what mainstream media writes about us.
Recently I started writing this newsletter in English, or rather, translating my articles from Spanish to English using artificial intelligence (AI).
Why did I do this?
To put it simply: to create more awareness.
It's no surprise to anyone that the fashion talked about in mainstream media is entirely focused on the European continent and what happens in the United States.
But the reality is that there is a great lack of information about Latin American fashion, both in Spanish and in English.
Probably, if you've read anything about Latin fashion in the international press, it was most likely, during Hispanic Heritage Month.
And they've probably been list-type pieces like: "9 Designers on What It Means to Be Latin in 2023" (Elle U.S., November 2023) or "25 Latinx Designers on How Their Culture Informs Their Work" (Harper’s Bazaar, October 2023).
